SIR RONALD SANDERS WRITES TO US LAWMAKER AS PROPOSED LAW TARGETS A&B, OTHER COUNTRIES

Antigua and Barbuda’s ambassador to the United States, Sir Ronald Sanders, has written to representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina, concerning legislation she introduced in the United States House of Representatives on July 15. The Third World Immigration Moratorium Act proposes sweeping immigration restrictions on Antigua and Barbuda and 39 other countries.

In his letter to Representative Mace, copied to several high-ranking members of the House, Ambassador Sanders said that while Antigua and Barbuda fully respects the right of a member of house to propose legislation on immigration policies, “any proposed measures affecting friendly countries, should be informed by accurate information and objective facts.”

Sir Ronald says the proposed law categorizes Antigua and Barbuda with countries which are experiencing social and economic tumult, including Haiti and the Republic of Congo.

The veteran diplomat believes this is “grand-standing” by Representative Mace, and while he does not believe “it has a snowball chance in hell of getting anywhere,” the country cannot allow it to go unchallenged.
