CARBON EMISSIONS TO BE SLASHED AS LNG SUPPLY CONTRACT IS SECURED

A deal has been reached by the private developers of a 40-megawatt power plant in Antigua to receive Liquefied Natural Gas, LNG.
Caribbean LNG has awarded a contract to India-based multinational INOXCVA for the design, engineering and supply for a mini Liquefied Natural Gas receiving and regasification terminal to be established here.
Caribbean LNG is a joint venture between Antigua Power Company and Eagle LNG Partners which has broken ground for a new power plant in Crabbs.
Francis Hadeed, Director of Antigua Power Company is quoted in an online article as outlining the significance of the deal. He says the state-of-the-art modular terminal will serve as a template “for our plans throughout the Eastern Caribbean and hub for cost-effective, low-carbon fuel supply to the country and region.”
Caribbean LNG will supply power to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority, APUA from the new plant.
LNG is regarded as the cleanest of the fossil fuels and will result in a significant reduction in Antigua and Barbuda’s carbon emissions.
