The Five Islands campus started with several buildings whereas the other campuses began more modestly.
For example, the Cave Hill Campus started in a warehouse.
Professor Griffith also attributes the campus’ successful start-up to programmes already developed and taught at the Antigua State College through a franchise arrangement.

He also credits this franchise arrangement for the ability to quickly staff the university with lecturers.
He is of the view that the 175 students enrolled in the first semester is commendable given that no large-scale advertising was done.
