GREECE TO ALLOW VACCINATED VISITORS TO ITS SHORES AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK
Tourism has been ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic, with many countries shutting their borders for non-essential travel. Greece is no exception.
It was recently announced that vaccinated visitors from several countries will have the opportunity to visit Greece, starting next week.
The European Union, of which Greece is a member, has previously indicated that it wants to get a vaccine passport program off the ground for travelers. Nothing has been formalized as a collective, but Greece is acting as a guinea pig of sorts, with the introduction of this pilot project.
This new plan of action will allow travelers to skip the 7-day quarantine imposed on visitors presently, but they would still have to follow the other Covid-19 protocols currently prescribed.
So far, the countries that this initiative is open to are those of the EU, and others with a heavy vaccination roll-out, namely Serbia, Israel and the United Kingdom.
With a population of more than 10 million, over 1.5 million citizens have received the first half of their vaccination. There are between two to four thousand new cases recorded daily in the European nation.
Greece has planned to launch its upcoming tourism season in May, 2021.
