SEVEN-DAY CURFEW IMPOSED IN DOMINICA AS GROWING COVID-19 CLUSTER IS CONFIRMED

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced a 6pm to 5am curfew for the next seven days, as he announced a COVID-19 cluster comprising 10 confirmed cases, with the possibility of at least another 14 infections. Prime Minister Skerrit says the current cluster appears to be linked to an individual or individuals who entered the state illegally and participated in a bikers’ activity and a ‘jam’ in Pottersville on Sunday, July 25. The 10 confirmed cases from the cluster and two imported cases mean there are now a dozen active infections, but this figure could climb to 26 if the 14 positive antigen test results are confirmed with PCR tests. The Prime Minister has expressed concern about evidence that the virus is more contagious.

The 6pm-5am curfew will be stricter this weekend; from 5pm on Saturday, August 7, throughout the day on Sunday, August 8 to 5am on Monday, August 9. It will then resume at 6pm on August 9. Meanwhile, all non-essential businesses are to remain closed, all bars and nightclubs, as well as churches and other places of worship are to remain closed during the period. Weddings are to be limited to 5 people while funerals are to have no more than 10 people.

Prime Minister Skerrit is urging all to adhere to the protocols and to get vaccinated.
