PRIME MINISTER BROWNE CALLS FOR PROFIT TAX ON OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne has used a speech at the OP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt, to call for a global tax on the profits of the carbon-intensive oil and gas industry.
He told fellow world leaders the proceeds from this tax could be used to fund compensation for loss and damage from the effects of climate change on the most vulnerable states.
The head of government and chairman of the Alliance of Small Island States also wants a loss and damage fund to be established at the ongoing summit.
