Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne has urged Caricom member states to use the occasion of the Twenty-Eighth Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to be hosted by Antigua and Barbuda this year to reinvigorate the 56-nation grouping.

He was speaking at the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Caricom Heads of Government in Frigate Bay, St Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday. Prime Minister Browne was providing an update to his colleagues on Antigua and Barbuda’s preparations to host the Twenty-Eighth CHOGM, November 1–4, 2026.

He said the Commonwealth has lost some of its relevance over the years and expressed hope that the upcoming summit will introduce practical strategies to restore its influence and effectiveness.

Prime Minister Browne encouraged his fellow Heads of Government to give their full support to the planning process and underscored the importance of their attendance.

Prime Minister Browne met with Commonwealth Secretary General Shirley Botchwey, one of the special guests at the Caricom meeting.
