ECONOMIST WARNS OF POTENTIAL PRICE PRESSURES ON THE CARIBBEAN FROM MIDDLE EAST WAR

Economics professor C. Justin Robinson says the US-Israeli bombardment of Iran and the retaliatory strikes by Iran across the Gulf region present significant economic risk for Antigua and Barbuda and other countries of the Caribbean.

The principal of the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus says the longer the war continues, the greater the risk of imported inflation in the region, as well as shocks to tourism and supply chains.

The economist says this is yet another example of the Caribbean being on the receiving end of global crises, though not participating in them.

Prof. Robinson spoke with ABS News on Wednesday.
