Historic Global Appointment for Minister Kiz Johnson
Minister of State in the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation, Hon. Kiz Johnson has been appointed by Women Political Leaders as country ambassador for Antigua and Barbuda. WPL is the global network of women politicians and this appointment is historic for the Caribbean, as Minister Johnson is the first country ambassador named by the network from the region.
WPL says the appointment recognizes Minister Johnson’s service as member of the House of Representatives of Antigua and Barbuda and Minister of State, as well as her “continued commitment to the aims and objectives of WPL.”
WPL’s mission is to increase the number and the influence of women in political office, from Presidents, Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers to Members of Parliament and Mayors.
WPL is an independent, international, post-partisan, not-for-profit association based in Brussels, Belgium.
Minister Johnson, who was elected as Member of Parliament for St Philip South in the April 30 general election, says she is humbled and honoured by the appointment, which will position Antigua and Barbuda in the international spotlight as a champion for gender equality and advancement.
She says this role will also present her with the opportunity to advocate for more country ambassadors and representation across the region.
WPL was reportedly impressed with Johnson’s dynamism as the Caribbean’s lone representative to a high-level engagement at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, 2024.
