Country to intensify efforts to move away from the use of fossil fuels

The country will be intensifying efforts to move away from the use of fossil fuels.

This follows an historic agreement at the recently concluded Climate Change Summit in Paris.

Health and Environment Minister, Molwyn Joseph, who returned from the summit on Tuesday, says the meeting was productive and successful in many ways.

He says the country will be embarking on more aggressive approaches to harness renewable energy.

He adds that Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, will be travelling to New York early next year to solidify the country’s decision.

A decision was made to increase sea water desalination by at least 50% by 2025 and by 2030 all buildings will be adequately prepared to combat extreme climate events to include: droughts and hurricanes.

He details two terms that must become familiar language when discussing climate change — mitigation and adaptation.

Minister Joseph assures that the country will be standing by the decision to reduce the amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

He adds that most government institutions will be utilizing renewable energy through the use of solar panels almost immediately.
